Action Committee
The Action Committee's primary focus is to identify and address
neighborhood issues, threats, and opportunities. The Committee will seek
out opportunites and resources to resolve problems where possible, and
will represent the Neighborhood Association at relevant
public meetings. The Action Committee will work closely with local
government, community groups, and neighbors to address problems as they arise.
The Action Committee relies on neighborhood communications, neighborhood
meetings, public media venues, and local government communications to
identify issues, threats, and opportunities.
If any neighbor has an issue or concerns, please
bring them up at the next neighborhood meeting, attend an action
committee meeting, or drop an email to Joni Heide.

The database is a large body of work that consist of maps of property
locations and boundaries, addresses, owners' and renters' contact
information, and aerial maps showing features such as streets,
sidewalks, and trees. We are currently working on a sidewalk inventory
and plan on working on a street tree inventory.
Notes From Last Meeting
Action committee requested input from the Neighborhood Association to help identify 1-3 projects to focus on in 2008. Using the VCNA stategic plan as a guide, and input from the entire neighborhood, the Action Committee will prioritize 2008 projects. A suggestion was made to develop a survey to post on the web and in the newsletter to get neighbor input. Areas of consideration discussed at the meeting were:
- Additional curb and sidewalk. Jennifer Cribitz will providethe schedule for the start of 2008 replacements on Grove Street and the deadline for additional grant applications.
- Zoning Plan (identified in VCNA strategic plan as a goal to start by September 2008. Discussed the current use and ownership of the Apple Tree building site, residential zoning tiers, and the benefits of a zoning plan. Bianca Klinker, Area Plan can help us.
- Neighborhood lighting-identify dark areas, identify lighting type- ie.-Duke street lights, historic or custom light style, or coordinated owner purchase of individual street /yard lamps with consistent style. Discussed a lighting campaign to encourage people to leave their porch lights on all night. Jennifer Cribitz to request a neighborhood lighting survey by engineers department to see if areas with low light levels qualify for street lights.
- Speed bumps and rumble strips. Jennfifer Cribitz to provide qualification criteria.
- Beautification- identify areas for planting flowers, neighborhood entries, quick graffiti removal.
- Landlords-continue working with landlords on property improvements and crime prevention strategies.
